Websites and news organizations make money from advertising when we view their content. There are three important distinctions for you to know:
- Native Advertising - advertising that tries to sell or promote a product in the guise of a news story
- Traditional Advertising - most common advertising that sells or promotes a product
- News story - real content containing factual information about a subject and independent of bias and should answer, who, what, when and how

The first advertisement is an example of traditional advertising. It is promoting the product Gotham Writers.

The third advertisement is an example of a news story. It’s purpose is to state why women don’t enter tech fields.

ReplyDeleteThe Gotham Writers piece is a traditional advertisement. Reason: Tiny little blue X in top right hand corner, Save $20, Coupon code, Limited time only language.
The Almonds piece is a traditional news story. Answers questions of who, what, etc. Has authors name for verification.
Real Reasons Women Don't Go Into Tech is a native advertisement. The tell is the words Sponsored Content.
